Plunged car, with bodies of mother and sons, retrieved from Kedah river


ALOR SETAR: The bodies of three family members who were feared drowned after the car they were travelling in plunged into a river at Syed Omar Bridge, near Jalan Sungai Petani-Baling on Saturday (June 25) have been found.

Baling OCPD Supt Shamsudin Mamat said the three were identified as religious teacher Mashitoh Ibrahim, 37, and her two sons Mohd Ziyad Zikri Sharudin, 7, and Mohd Ziyad Haziq, 5.

"Investigation found that the accident occurred at about 6.30pm, and the car driven by the victim were heading towards Sungai Petani from Kuala Ketil when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle at the bridge, skidded and plunged into Sungai Muda," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 26).

Supt Shamsudin said all of the victims were found trapped in the car underneath the river, adding that the remains were sent to Kulim Hospital for postmortem.

Supt Shamsudin said police are now looking for witnesses to help in the investigations.

He said the car wreckage was sent to Baling police headquarters for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
